Join us on an amazing tour to the Ghost Town of Famagusta and the archaeological site of Salamis.

Join us on an in-depth view of Famagusta and the ongoing state of affairs with the Ghost Town, the illegal occupation of our Northern territories and the archaeological site of Salamis key to our past.

We commence by crossing the border and drive to the archaeological site of Salamis passing along the fence which surrounds this once glamorous city of Varosha.

Just a short drive from the main town, the ruins of Salamis are just off the parking lot. Not overrun with visitors, but a sprawling gymnasium and baths complex and wonderful amphitheatre are highlights. The ancient site covers an area of one square mile extending along the sea shore. There is still a large area awaiting excavation and this is forested with mimosa, pine and eucalyptus trees.

According to legend, Salamis was founded around 1180 BC by Teucer (Teukros), son of Telamon, king of Salamina, on the Greek mainland. Brother to the hero Ajax, he was unable to return home from the Trojan War after failing to avenge his brother’s death.

The ancient city of Salamis became the capital of Cyprus as far back as 1100 BC. The city shared the destiny of the rest of the island during the successive occupations by the various dominant powers of the Near East, viz. the Assyrians, Egyptians, Persians, and Romans. We then head back to main city of Famagusta by circling the moat of the gothic city where the castle walls tower over us and finally enter inside and tour the city within the walls where 365 churches and cathedrals which once stood witness to centuries of history gone by. Free time will be given to walk around the city to explore things further or sit back and enjoy a coffee and their famous sweets.

And lastly a short drive we arrive to the renowned sandy beach where we view the deserted hotels up close along its coast and for an opportunity for you to submerge your selves in its refreshing crystal-clear waters for a relaxing swim before we start heading back.
